The Cricit machine and water bottles have made a phenomenal impact on our students. As a Speech-Language Pathologist, I am always looking for functional, hands-on ways to build language and life skills. Using the Cricut, my 3rd -5th grade students actively participated in designing and creating custom labels for their new water bottles as part of Community Helpers. We handed out the bottles to our career day volunteers. \r\nThis project served as a powerful language vehicle. Having their own customized water bottles has also boosted their independence and pride within our community. We used the machine to explore how real-world signs are made, blending early technology with design. The students were absolutely mesmerized watching the machine cut out letters! Together, we used those custom pieces to create a beautiful, appealing bulletin board, as well as the official signs for our special \"Muffins with Mom\" breakfast event. Seeing their project on display gave our young learners an immense sense of pride and ownership over their school community.\r\n\r\nIn an underserved area where resources can be limited, this tool provides our curious preschoolers with hands-on experiences that build fine motor skills and early tech literacy. It has transformed our classroom into a more engaging, organized, and inspiring space where our youngest students can see their ideas come to life.\r\nThank you for investing in our classroom, celebrating our families, and showing our students that their creativity matters.","fullyFundedDate":1777910894466,"projectUrl":"project/tiny-hands-big-cricut-dreams/10214358/","projectTitle":"Tiny Hands, Big Cricut Dreams","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mandelbaum","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4103911_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1480382296988","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rmandelbaum"},{"teacherId":4103911,"projectId":10209584,"letterContent":"Thank you for bringing our Pre-K Signs Unit to life! Your generous donation had completely transformed our Pre-K classroom during our brand new Signs Unit. By providing a diverse collection of targeted books and realistic block play signs, you gave our youngest learners the tools to connect the classroom to the real world. The impact of your donation stretches far beyond the pages of these books and the wood of these blocks. For four- and five-year-olds, environmental print—like stop signs, exit signs, and street markers—is their first introduction to reading. By integrating community signs directly into our block center, you are allowing students to construct their own meaning of the world around them while building vital fine motor and collaboration skills.\r\n\r\nPre-K students learn best through hands-on, play-based experiences. When they build structures in the block area and label them with real-world signs, they are developing critical spatial awareness, early engineering skills, and vocabulary.\r\n\r\nYour support directly creates an immersive, print-rich environment where every child can feel like a successful reader. This project bridges the gap between literary concepts and architectural play, ensuring our student leaders develop a lifelong love for learning and exploration.Thank you for investing in early literacy and creative play!","fullyFundedDate":1777910986640,"projectUrl":"project/seeing-signs-everywhere-building-early/10209584/","projectTitle":"Seeing Signs Everywhere: Building Early Literacy Through Sign Books","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mandelbaum","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4103911_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1480382296988","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rmandelbaum"},{"teacherId":4103911,"projectId":9820528,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our piece by piece puzzle project and bringing a new kind of joy into our classroom. The puzzles that we had in our classroom were old and many were missing pieces. Your generosity didn't just provide materials — it created moments of focus, collaboration, and confidence that my students truly needed.\r\n\r\nAs soon as the puzzles arrived, students gravitated toward them with excitement. Many of my learners struggle with attention, perseverance, or anxiety during academic tasks, but puzzles gave them a space where they could slow down, think critically, and experience success step by step. I watched students who rarely speak up begin to problem‑solve together, celebrate small wins, and encourage one another. Those moments of teamwork and pride are exactly what I hoped this project would spark. The puzzles also give fun and engaging opportunities for the boys and girls to learn their letters, colors, and numbers through play and exploration.\r\n\r\nThe puzzles have also become a calming option during transitions and a powerful tool for building spatial reasoning and persistence. Students who often feel overwhelmed now have an activity that helps them reset and re-engage. It's been incredible to see how something so simple can make such a meaningful difference in their day.\r\n\r\nYour support made this possible. Thank you for believing in my students and giving them tools that strengthen their minds, their confidence, and their sense of community. The boys and girls were so excited to see the boxes and couldn't wait to find out what was inside them. They were fighting to have an opportunity to help open the boxes. Then they saw the pictures on the packaging and realized we can have and make ice cream in our classroom. The look of absolute pleasure was wonderful. Then they were curious about the juicer, ice machine and ice shaver and how we would use them in our classroom. \r\nSince then we have had many different opportunities to make fantastic use of these amazing resources. We have used leftover apples and oranges from our breakfast and lunch program to make fresh juice, which tasted amazing! They keep asking for me to make it more often for them. We have used leftover yogurt from the breakfast program to make frozen yogurt. I can't wait to try and make fresh ice cream too. The ice machine and shaver have come in handy to make special treats for a student who is vegan and can't participate in impromptu parties because of his dietary restrictions. I top the shaved ice with fresh juice made from our juicer. By doing this he feels like he is included and a valued part of our classroom community instead of an outsider. He even felt so special helping out in making his special treat. \r\nThese resources will come in handy and be utilized more often when the weather turns warmer. Now, we are working on a brand new unit of study, all about pets. By the end of the unit the boys and girls will learn about different kinds of pets, how we take care of them, and even give them stuffed pets to adopt, take care of, and call their own. Since this is a new unit of study, it would be helpful to have more materials to help foster the boys and girls curiosity and growth in fine motor skills.","fullyFundedDate":1757037560763,"projectUrl":"project/waste-not-but-definitely-want/9327271/","projectTitle":"Waste Not but Definitely Want","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mandelbaum","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4103911_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1480382296988","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rmandelbaum"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_742","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":326,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":81,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":79,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.8,"schoolId":742,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about PS 198 Brooklyn on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"PS 198 Brooklyn","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/ps-198-brooklyn/742"}
