Help me give my students high interest and award-winning classroom library book and some pencils to write about them. Our school doesn't have access to a librarian and the English dept. is trying to provide access books!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are Baltimore City Schools Pupils who are focusing on accelerating their skill around literacy. They are hardworking students who monitor their grades and come to coach class for extra help. My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
We are a classroom at the historic Frederick Douglas High School trying to live up to his promise that, "once you learn to read, you will be forever free." We believe in hard work, revision, feedback as a means of growth and creating a community of learners through conversation and supporting each other through intellectual challenges.
My Project
Providing new high-interest books will help me foster the skill of life-long learning and reading into my students. They deserve to get access to texts of interest outside of the curriculum. While we have a media center, we don't have a librarian and we have not updated texts in quite a long time. This leaves a hole in the educational experience our students get, so my team of English teachers is trying to bulk up our classroom library with new and exciting books.
Without a librarian, we have limited time and resources to curate, purchase and offer high-interest text outside of the curriculum.
Projects like this one are helping my school's English Department bridge the gap and give our students the access to text that facilitate the joy of reading.
