My students are our future leaders! They will one day change the world and that starts in my classroom. They work really hard and love to learn and be successful.
I am honored and privileged to call them "mine" this year!
95% of my students come from a home where socioeconomic status is very low. Most of them receive free and reduced lunches. When they go home in the evening, books for literacy are usually not at the forefront of their families priorities. They want to play and their parents just want to put food on the table. My school really works as a community to service our students and give them every opportunity to succeed!
My Project
Books are literally the most magical and beneficial thing that a child can be given to use. I tell my students, who often do not get to travel that opening and reading a book will allow them to go on a journey to so many different places and open their minds to so many different ideas.
I am moving to an intermediate classroom this year and my entire library is geared towards a primary classroom!
I need help building my library with books that the older students will use for reading and writing workshop. The books listed in this project are books recommended by my district as books to use for mentor texts while teaching my reading and writing mini lessons.
Crow Call by Lois Lowery, One Green Apple by Eve Bunting, & Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson are just a few of the selections we will use. Most of them will be used in a read-aloud setting with students having unlimited access to them afterwards for referencing and pleasure reading.
