My Students
As a teacher in a high poverty rate school district, my students are faced with many difficult challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. It is my job to create a safe and positive learning environment for them. From the minute they walk in the classroom, to the minute they leave, I focus on their potential growth not only physically, but mentally as well as emotionally. My children are full of happiness, positive energy, and most of all, they come in every morning eager and ready to learn!
My Project
Reading for at least 20 minutes everyday is essential for students, especially in first grade where they are just learning how to read. The more practice they get, the easier reading becomes for them. The easier reading becomes, the more joy and excitement students get from reading. Reading daily helps to improve both fluency and comprehension.
Working in a low-income district, many students do not have resources in their homes to practice reading daily.
This is why I have started a lending library, where students choose a new book to take home daily. Each night, they read the book that they choose with their parent, sibling, grandparent, etc. Thanks to DonorsChoose.org, I was able to create my lending library with an abundance of books from a previously funded project.
Now we are asking for book pouches so that students can bring their books to and from school without them getting destroyed. I want to preserve the books for as long as possible and will need book pouches to help save them!
