My Project
I love my EL students! They are charismatic, resilient, and full of potential. I appreciate them showing up every day, ready to learn and take on the challenges of developing a new language. I'm honestly inspired by their perseverance and desire to grow.
This project is about supporting my students through their nourishment and encouragement.
It may seem like a small gesture, but these kids are definitely food-motivated and love working hard toward a goal: their snack or a cooking day! Whether it’s a simple snack during a lesson or a hands-on cooking activity, food helps build connection, focus, and community in our classroom.
Cooking together isn’t just fun—it’s meaningful. It creates space for social-emotional growth and teamwork, while also integrating academic skills like reading instructions, measuring ingredients (math), and understanding reactions (science). These moments turn into powerful learning opportunities students remember.
During the school year, our EL students work hard preparing for their WIDA test. It's a demanding time of year, and I don’t want my students to burn out—I want them to stay energized, confident, and motivated. By providing snacks, I hope to eliminate one more barrier to success. With full stomachs and fueled brains, my students can better participate in discussions, stay on task, and engage more fully in their learning.
