A Beautiful Classroom Needs a Beautiful Gift From You!
My students need 5 laptops to help prepare them for the new standardized tests which are all computer based. Our school does not supply the classroom with computers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Even though I am quite young, in my 5-6 years of experience teaching in the heart of Miami, I am actually quite traditional in my teaching methods. I do believe that I can effectively and passionately teach my students, solely with a novel and a pencil in hand.
That these students need to pass these new standardized tests to be able to graduate, with all these changes the students truly need more exposure to constant technology in the classroom to help them pass the test and graduate.
Year after year, countless students shed tears and face the pressure and fear of not being able to even graduate from high school because of their yearly struggle with the state standardized test. Many of my students do not have Internet access at home, some of my students can not even afford the novels needed for our class, and I have even had students share with me their difficult family situations, where they are without a home, living in local shelters. Because our school is new, we do not even have a library for these students to study or use the computers in. The beauty of this new school, however, is that the location supports a population of students that usually don't have a fighting chance.
My Project
I teach at a charter school, where the majority of students would normally be zoned for schools that are frankly quite horrific. This school gives them hope. And with my effective teaching skills, and with these 5 laptops that could possibly be gifted to me, I know I can help these students succeed in passing these new tests, and help them become successful in the real world. I would use the lap tops to help teach them how to type (which is necessary for the new writing test), to read electronically, to do research, and cite information, etc. All these skills are not only needed for their new standardized tests, but can also be used in the college setting.
Even though I have only requested 5 laptops, I will be able to set up a laptop station, pair the students and have various group activities going on at once. Not only is this type of teaching method research based, but the students actually really enjoy it and learn at the same time! I know these laptops will help these students achieve higher scores.
I can assure you that if I receive these laptops, they will positively be put to good use.
For my 8th graders, if they don't pass the test now, the likelihood of them passing in high school is slim, if they don't pass in high school, they can not graduate. For my 11th graders, a good percentage of them still have not passed their 10th grade state exam, and even though they are a year out from graduating, they do not know if they even can graduate due to their low scores.
