Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hi, I am a teacher at a Title I school in the South Bronx. One of our main focuses at our school is to ensure a well balanced literacy program for our students. How I believe I can help my students achieve their full potential in this area is by your generosity. I am requesting instant literacy centers and a high frequency word wall. This helps in the facilitation of balanced literacy program by giving the students the opportunity for a hands on approach and visualization. The centers provide hours of engagement and promotes independent learning. Each center features 12 different activities that students can explore on their own. This can be from building sight-words with chunky plastic letters to forming entire paragraphs with handy sentence strips. Also identifying blends, digraphs, vowels combinations, constructing complete sentences using parts of speech, and creating paragraphs using topic, support and conclusion sentences. The word wall helps teach and display tons of high frequency words and gives students an accessible reference for the words they need to know. This word wall also helps with vocabulary development, mechanics of writing, and reference skills. I have discussed the idea of using these materials with my students and they think it is a great idea! Thank you for making their dream become a reality.
