Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Half of my day is brightened by 6th graders learning writing, reading, and history in a public school in California. The other half is invigorated by 7th and 8th graders learning Spanish! My classes have a range of students at all ability levels and with dfferent learning intelligences. I try to vary our instructional activities to keep them engaged.
This creates an issue of equity, and this is where these creative resources can make a world of difference.
All students need opportunities to engage in learning, and these materials will make all the difference in their motivation.
My goal is to be able to provide academic and technological resources to support both the students and their parents.
My Project
This project includes eight editions of a 32-page print magazine for each student, including extensive digital resources for my sixth graders. Its content and curriculum align with the Common Core and state standards. It supports higher-level thinking as well as whole-class, small-group, and independent instruction. It also includes activities and assessments, videos, audio articles, vocabulary slideshows, and engaging activities.
This magazine will introduce and reinforce the language arts skills most critical to analytical reading, writing, and test-taking.
These fascinating and powerful stories educate them through different genres (world events, debates, dramas, short stories, etc.) which inform and prepare them for future academic success.
