A, B, C, D... Learning Letters Is FUN for ME!

Help me give my students such as alphabet tubs, learning locks and Alpah-Bots, the materials to strengthen their knowledge of the alphabet letter names and sounds.

My Students

I currently teach 23 five- and six-year-old kindergarteners in Oregon City, OR. My students are culturally and academically diverse, but all of them are very creative, compassionate, and endlessly energetic! They are excited to be in school to learn and play with one another. We have an amazing classroom community and our days are full of opportunities for learning and having fun!

My Project

I am thrilled to see the growth that many of my kindergartners have already demonstrated in their knowledge of the alphabet letters and sounds this year. However, many of my students did not attend preschool (or very little) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this, my little learners are working harder than ever to learn their letter names and sounds. They are excited to become even stronger readers and writers this year!

Kindergartners do their best when learning is hands-on, multisensory, and fun!

The materials that I am requesting will help me ensure that lessons about the alphabet will be all three of those things.

The Alpha-Bots will be the perfect addition to our Morning Bins as students use fine-motor skills to twist and turn the letters into super-cool robots and back again. Rolling Play-Doh into letter shapes with the Dough Mats as their guide will help kindergartners with their letter formation and will give them a strong understanding that almost all letters are made from lines and curves. The Alphabet Learning Locks will give students the opportunity to match uppercase to lowercase letters while they practice identifying the "first sound" in a word with the picture on each lock. Perhaps most exciting is the Alphabet Sound Teaching Tubs! I have countless ideas for how to utilize these materials, including introducing letter names and sounds, playing games to boost phonological awareness with first, middle, and last sounds, and centers. I could even have students go on a scavenger hunt around the classroom with the task of returning the items to their correct bin! The teeny-tiny miniatures are irresistible to little hands! The possibilities truly are endless, as this is a resource that I would use daily, both with the whole class and in a small group setting.
