A 21st Century Science Classroom: Projector and Document Cam
My students need a projector and document camera in order to interact with science as it is done in the real world, through hands-on, inquiry-based experiences.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Science is a subject that is best learned through interactive, hands-on experiences. Can you imagine learning about breakthrough scientific experiences using only a chalkboard, pencil, and paper? The incorporation of modern technology is a necessity in successful science classrooms.
My students belong to a highly-diversified community.
My school serves a population of almost 3,000 high school students. The current graduation rate is almost 80%, which is about 15% less than the state average. However, the graduation rate has been steadily increasing over the past few years with help from programs such as GEARUP and work with education consultants. Over 17% of the school community have been identified as "students with disabilities, with an additional 16% identified as having "limited English proficiency." One unique aspect of the school is that over 80% of our students consider Spanish to be their first language. A majority of our students' families have very limited English proficiency. Only 10% of our 11th and 12th graders are enrolled in an Advanced Placement course, which is half of the state average. The school has a dropout rate that is over three times the state average. Of the graduating seniors, less than 14% attend a four-year college.
My Project
Having a projector and document classroom will be transformational for my classroom and my students. Being able to create instructional lessons through PowerPoint presentations and centered on scientific videos will give students a visual, interactive way to grapple with the content of my curriculum. Additionally, having this modern technology in my classroom will allow my students to be more competitive with students in wealthier school districts and even on a global scale. Being able to display images and words for the entire classroom to see will benefit multi-sensory learners. Students will be able to analyze experimental data and graphs with each other to compare results. There are also many science videos of demonstrations and laboratory experiments that are either too dangerous or too expensive to be done in my classroom. Having a projector will allow my students to still have these experiences in a safe manner.
In this global economy, technology is an integral part of our lives.
Incorporating technology into classroom learning will help students to develop the knowledge and skills that are so critical to success in our tech-heavy world. Having a projector and document camera in my classroom will result in more active engagement and opportunities for cooperative learning that are not possible without such technology. It will allow me as a teacher to reach multiple learning styles.
