Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We start our day with "Tell us one thing you learned in this class yesterday." The goal is to prepare my 8th grade students for high school by building a strong foundation in physical science, developing their problem solving and critical thinking skills, and motivating those who are not.
My 8th grade students come from different social and ethnic backgrounds.
Many of them are motivated and see school as a place of learning and the gate to their success in the future. These students do well and enjoy going to school. On the other hand, I have many students who come to school only because their "parents make them" or because "it is the law" as they say. As a result, they do poorly in their academics and in school attendance. Our school provides equal opportunities for all students and we have a great success rate but there are students who don't meet the requirements for graduation in 8th grade or are not prepared for high school because they don't do their work or because education is not their priority.
My Project
Those students who do poorly throughout school are not motivated and need to be inspired and reached in different ways. These students need to realize how privileged they are to have the freedom to go to school and be educated in our country. They need to see how lucky they are to have the right to education whether they are male or female, rich, or poor. There are thousands of children in other parts of the world that do not have the freedom or the right to choose and they are threatened with their life if they dare to go to school. By taking all of my students to see the documentary film "He Named me Malala", I believe, they will be inspired to place school and education among their priorities, help them appreciate what they have and take advantage of their rights rather than taking everything for granted. I believe that Malala will be able to reach many of my students to inspire them to seek education and be successful in their lives.
Taking all of my 8th grade students to see the documentary film "He Named me Malala", will be a great opportunity for many students who would not be able to go on their own.
Many of the non-motivated students will get inspired and re-evaluate their attitude towards school, education, and their freedom to choose. I believe my students will be more enthusiastic about coming to school, about learning, and will help me reach my goal to help every student in my class to be successful.
