Help me give my students a reading area that will inspire them to grow their imaginations through literature! By providing a comfortable, relaxing space, I hope to encourage more reading which helps students grow in many ways!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have been asking to go to my reading area more and more throughout the year. I have worked hard to grow the area by purchasing books and making it inviting; however, they lean against the wall or lay on the floor while reading. I would love to provide them ambient lighting, floor cushions, and a rug to make the area more inviting to encourage even more students to find their place to relax and read.
Reading is often seen as a chore by students.
Making an inviting and relaxing space will allow reading to be enjoyable and encourage students to want to read more!
Reading comprehension is an area where students are struggling across the country. By providing an area to encourage reading, I can encourage my students to grow in valuable skills that will help them, not only in ELA, but in all classes, such as: comprehension, vocabulary, and visualization.
