5th Grade: Envisioned in 3D

Help me give my students a Bambu Lab P1S Combo 3D Printer and filament.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My 5th graders are a curious, energetic group of budding innovators. They are at that magical age where they are moving from "learning to read" to "reading to learn"—and more importantly, "doing to understand." Our classroom is a diverse community where many students haven't had much exposure to high-tech manufacturing tools. Despite different backgrounds, they all share one thing: an incredible spark of creativity that ignites whenever we start a hands-on science project.

Currently, when we tackle engineering challenges, my students are limited to cardboard, tape, and pipe cleaners.

While these are great for "lo-fi" prototyping, there is a "missing link" between their imaginative designs and a functional, durable product.

I am requesting a Bambu Lab P1S Combo 3D Printer. This specific model is a game-changer for a classroom because it is fast, reliable, and enclosed (keeping curious fingers safe). The "Combo" includes the Automatic Material System (AMS), allowing students to print in multiple colors, which is vital for identifying different parts of a complex machine or biological system. With this printer, our classroom will become a "Maker Space" where students can:

Design and Prototype: Use CAD software to create solutions to real-world problems.Iterate: Print a design, find a flaw, fix the digital model, and print it again—the heart of the engineering cycle.

Visualize Science: Print 3D models of topographic maps, cellular structures, or mechanical gears.

This project directly supports the NGSS Engineering Design standards for 5th Grade (3-5-ETS1)

Testing and Refining: Students will perform fair tests to see which printed design performs best, using the data to improve their models.

My students will gain confidence in STEM that will follow them through middle school, high school, and beyond. They won't just be consumers of technology; they will be creators.
