Marking the transition from ending fifth grade and finishing elementary school and moving on into 6th grade and middle school is a big step! It is the result of so much hard work from students and their families and is a special moment to celebrate with them in community each year. We have worked hard to create a tradition for celebrating this occasion that centers the community that we serve and centers the success of our students. Our "block-party" style celebration has become notorious in the recent years and is a tradition that our students and their families have been looking forward to and talking about. This year's cohort of fifth graders has been excited to have "their turn."
This year, due to the state of the economy and large school budget freezes and cuts, we do not have a budget for this event.
Help us honor our students academic success, and their families' hard work by donating towards refreshments for this event. As we are a low-income elementary school and are geographically located in a food desert, offering refreshments is critical for our community.
This event has been one the highest turnout family/community school events with over an 80% family attendance rate for three years in a row. The high attendance and engagement in this event speaks volumes to the impact that it has on our community of learners and families, and the legacy that celebrating student completion of elementary school and transition into the next phase of their education leaves on past, present, and future students and families. This event increases student engagement and attendance in school. It also helps us to foster a positive relationship between the families that we serve and our school community, making it a lasting impact on academic engagement for all students.
