My students need this Chromebook to create and collaborate with others as they gather data via Skype and then graph the data for math and science on Google Drive.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Shouldn't 21st century learners have access to the tech tools they need? While some might refer to my 4th graders as "digital natives", they need a device that enables them to access sites available in today's educational landscape which will help them become college and career ready citizens.

I teach a very culturally diverse group of 4th graders.

Our school is located in a suburban area and 83% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. While my students are bright and eager to learn, they feel left behind in today's world where they hear of other students who attend tech enriched schools. I want my students to experience the joy of collaborating and creating with others online. Having a device in the classroom that would allow my students to create graphs showing the difference in daily temperature between our location and that of our buddy Skype class in another state, or work on a timeline of a scientist's life, or write a math reflection on a blog would make them feel like they were indeed digital natives.

My Project

I have registered my students for lots of websites. Some of the sites enable them to continue and extend their classroom learning, while others allow them to stretch their critical thinking and creative abilities. Using the Chromebook as a station in my classroom would allow my students to log onto sites such as Edmodo, LearnZillion, BrainPop, IXL, and Glogster and work independently on skills or projects.

Having a Chromebook would be a step in the right direction of ensuring that my students get the same tech enriched lessons that students from richer neighborhoods enjoy.

Their love of learning needs to be supported in every way possible. Please help me level the playing field for my students by donating to this project today.
