My Project

I am in my first year of teaching in the classroom. I am thrilled for this opportunity to influence, guide, and encourage students with a love for reading. Since this is my first year, my personal library and class library is not as vast as I would hope. With certain units, it is so nice to have mentor reading materials that I have on hand to use to model reading skills such as fluency, text structures, vocabulary, etc... My teaching colleague has been teaching in this grade level for 20+ years and has developed a wide library. She is so helpful by suggesting text to use when we are working through a certain unit. We end up trying to share books, but at time this is difficult and our school library may not have that particular book on hand.

My students deserve good, quality mentor reading materials.

I believe strongly that all students deserve good quality reading materials. Currently, we are working on a fluency partner reading project and the books I have for my students are "well loved". I want the focus to be on reading fluently rather than trying to keep the book together. I am very thankful I have the books but would like to offer books in better condition to students.

I am so thankful for the opportunity that DonorsChoose offers to connect donors with teachers. Prior to being in the classroom I was a special education teacher. My students have benefitted from other projects that I have had funded. They get so excited when they see new materials arrive that they will use.
