Help me give my students new and engaging books. Our classroom library is in need of a make over, and these books will help us move from cracked, yellowing, old titles to beautiful new books.
The scholars in my classroom represent multiple cultures from around the world, the United States and St. Paul. In my room alone you can hear Amharic, Hmong, Karen, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and English.
Their beautiful smiles come in each morning to greet me with excitement for the day, ready to learn and take on their next challenge.
They are fearless when it comes to learning. They accept the daily challenges set in front of them, eager to help each other, and celebrate each others successes. Their desire to learn has spread to a desire to help each other learn as well. Our saying in class is, if you want to help someone make sure you, "teach them, don't tell them". This desire they have for learning gives me the extra fuel I need everyday to continue to raise the bar on my teaching and how I present their learning tasks.
My Project
Everyone knows that books are the heart of any classroom, and my classroom is no different. Except that my classroom library is old and out dated. For the last 2 years I have been slowly purchasing new books and titles through book clubs, my own money and fundraisers. Each time I bring a new book or title into our room, I have to draw names to see who will add it to their book box collection for reading. They are hungry for new books, but not for the old books that fill our classroom library shelves. This is why this project is so important to my students. By restocking our shelves with new books and titles, I can hopefully meet their appetite for reading. Please help us make this happen.
