3rd Graders Deserve a Diverse Classroom Library!

Help me give my students diverse books and extra supplies such as command hooks to hang our headphones in our listening center!

This project expired on October 6, 2020.

My Students

I am a new third grade teacher at a second and third grade elementary school. I taught 1st and 2nd grade for five years and took a break to teach overseas in the Peace Corps. I am excited to return to teaching in a public school and challenge myself by teaching a new grade level! The students at Thomas Elementary are extremely diverse, both ethnically and socioeconomically. All of the students receive both free breakfast and lunch daily at the school.

My students are amazing and very eager to learn!

I am in a new classroom at a new school district. For this project, I am hoping to add chapter books and diverse literature to my classroom library. I believe that as anything educator, I should have books in my library that represent all of my students in my class.

My Project

I am new to my school district and am very excited to be teaching third grade! I taught first and second grade for five years before joining the Peace Corps and had to sell some of my teaching materials prior to leaving. Also, being new to third grade, I need materials that are at higher level to meet our learning standards.

For this project, I am hoping to receive diverse books that represent the students in my classroom that teach equality and empathy.

I know as an educator, I need to do more in my classroom to discuss current events and this includes adding more diversity to my classroom library. I hope these books will feel inclusive, but also be used to educate students about past and current events. I am also hoping to receive extra supplies such as command strips, hooks and whiteboard cleaner. I will use the hooks and strips to hang headphones in our listening center, pocket charts around the classroom and our brag tag necklaces. The whiteboard cleaner will be used daily to clean their individual whiteboards during small group and centers.
