As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My class is part of a Title I school, where more than 85% of the students are on free or reduced-price lunches.
This previous school year my class consisted of twenty-five students; four receive special education services for specific learning disabilities and two are English Language Learners.
For the 2018-2019 school year, I will be teaching third grade for the first time. This project will help me to provide my students with books that are on, above, and below their reading level. Coming from fifth grade, many of my books are too advanced for my upcoming students.
My goal is to provide my students with books that are selected for their wide appeal, literacy value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation.
Some of the books series that I am asking for are "Judy Moody", "The Lunch Lady", "Stink", and more. My hope is that there will be a book for each and every student to fall in love with!
