The President has challenged American Education and its students to produce more engineers that can compete globally for the many tech jobs that are in high demand. Well, we have to start somewhere!
My students are a group of 70 very smart and excited 3rd-5th graders who have joined our Florida elementary school's STEM Club (science, technology, engineering and math).
Some of the students have qualified to be part of our school's three STEM Bowl teams and others just love the fun and challenge of science experiments, multi-step brain teasers, as well as building and launching rockets and robots.
My Project
We ask our students to design and create all the time, but so often it's in 2D or a model from a pre-made kit. Using the Makerbot 3D printer, my students will be able to transform an original idea into a 3D object that they can hold! If they can envision it, they can literally build it! About an hour away Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman both have research facilities. With your help one day one of these students could make a better life for themselves working for one of these top engineering firms!
I still remember the first time I played Pong (when it first came out).
I was blown away and it inspired a life long love of science and tech advancements. Who knows what inspiration could come from this project? Perhaps the next Bill Gates or Steve Jobs has just entered the building! Thank you for your time and investment in our little Einsteins!
