Help me give my students a way to create what they are learning with a 3-D printer. As they learn new words to communicate with they will be able to create an object to match their word.
I work in a school with students that come from all types of backgrounds. My students struggle with their learning skills academically, socially, and emotionally. They each have an IEP and stay in my special education classroom for the majority of their day. Each student is unique in their ability to process the world around them, communicate with others about their needs, and what they know, as well as their development.
Each of my students come to me with an individualized education plan that I work each day to meet and help them overcome their learning challenges.
They need a small group setting, repeated instruction, and opportunities to handle an overload of information.
My Project
In our classroom, we are working on developing our language skills and ability to communicate are needs, wants, and what we are learning about. Having a 3D printer in our classroom would allow my students to learn new spelling words, read different stories, and work on math problems with actual objects that align to the content.
We could print out objects for our spelling words.
We would be able to print out objects with the 3D printer that would match the words. The students would then be able to requests, play, and interact with the objects as they use develop their verbal skills.
As we read stories, we could print out characters and key points of the setting. The students could use the objects to communicate what they are learning about. They could also answer comprehension questions by choosing the objects or pairing them to give their answer. A 3D printer opens up endless possibilities for what can be used to build language and communication in our classroom without having to shop for every little thing.
