The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.
My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.
We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.
I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.
My Project
I am so excited to provide some If/Then STEM experiences to our students. 3D printing is something that has really started to take off and students are really enjoy doing it across the country. They don't even realize they are incorporating all the STEAM components by using science, art, engineering, technology, and math by creating amazing designs. These 2 Creality Ender 3 V2, 3D Printers would allow us to have 2 designs going at once which, would be great for our larger groups. We definitely need some filament, 3D printing tools to cut and measure, and supplies like rubbing alcohol and rags to keep our printer clean as we help make our projects come to life.
3D printers, filament, and printing tools would open up a whole new world for our students especially our girls by giving them a brand new STEM experience at school.
Our hope eventually, if COVID cooperates would be to offer after schools clubs to all of our students, but focusing on getting our girls involved as well. If Clubs are not allowed this year then our teachers are going to step up and take all the students into our Makerspace and get them all involved in the 3D printer and take turns coming up with some great designs. We have to introduce them to these amazing experiences if we want them to take an interest.
