3D Printer for Geometry Projects

Help me give my students a 3D printer and filament so that we can bring geometry to life by creating hands-on projects.

My Students

I teach at a public high school located in the middle of San Francisco, and we serve students from all over the city. A large percentage of our students receive free and reduced-price lunch, and our students are from many different backgrounds.

My Project

I have requested a 3D printer and different colored filament to better help my students visualize concepts taught in Geometry. Having this tool will give students the ability to bring geometry ideas into reality, by actually creating hands-on projects.

For example, one of the big ideas taught in Geometry is volume and surface area, so being able to have my students build objects that they could hold and play with will enable these kids to actually measure and see why the formulas taught in class work.

This is an especially powerful tool because most kids have a hard time with many mathematical concepts because they are restricted to drawing them on a piece of paper. Being able to build items by using the 3D printer will definitely help us unlock a new level of teaching.
