Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The school's media center is a space where discovery, exploration, and creativity interweave while engaging with technology. Students' are provided opportunities through projects to learn about how to use different types of technology.
Our school's students are very eager to use 3D printing and design to move from just consuming media to being creators.
My students are predominately first-generation Mexican-American children of immigrants in grades K-5. Our school has an active performing arts program and technology program.
Our goal is to deliver students with up-to-date technology to provide skills that students can use not just in technology fields, but also in different areas while tapping into multiple interests.
My Project
Our school has significantly invested in technology throughout the years, investing in various devices and ensuring most grade levels are 1:1. Students engage to a significant degree with technology, but we want to provide further access to 3D printing and designing to ensure our students continue to have access to world-class technology skills to prepare them for success in the 21st century.
The 3D printing filaments will provide materials needed for students to bring their designs into the real world.
Students will be able to go beyond creating abstract designs online by bringing them into the physical realm. They will explore topics like design and modeling.
Our school's budget has been cut dramatically for the past few years, but we still have the responsibility of making sure our students are obtaining the skills and experiences they will need to be successful. We have two 3D printers but regularly run out of filament. These filament cartridges will help to close that gap just a little bit more while exciting and motivating our students with physical representations of their imaginations.
