Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love creating in our school's Innovation Lab. They learn how to solder, sew, program, prototype, and design sustainable devices and wearable art. They also use the lab to create, repair, and upcycle their own backpacks, shoes, belts, jewelry, and clothes. They are very focused on carbon emissions and zero waste. This 3D ceramic printer with materials will allow them to print their 3D models on a machine that doesn't require plastic. In addition, any failed prints can be reworked into clay and loaded back into the extruder. Nothing will be wasted.

My students are true examples of personal expression, while focused on the environment and their impact on climate change.

In my class, they learn skills that may lead to their future careers. 3D modeling is an industry that significantly lessens waste in manufacturing processes. It is more energy efficient, uses less materials, and produces products that are lighter and require less energy to transport. Objects can also be printed on-demand and on-site, eliminating transport all together. All of this decreases carbon emissions. In addition to using clay as a material that will allow students to lower the carbon footprint of their projects, it will offer more creative outlets for them.

My students are innovative and invested in their learning. Many have crossover interests in engineering, visual arts, and environmental science. They are a daily inspiration to me. I cannot wait to see what they will create with access to a 3D ceramic printer.
