My students need straws to be able to complete their straw launcher lab. We have 5 straw launchers but the straw need to be replenished every time we complete the lab.

My Students

They don't care how much you know until the they know how much they care. ~ Theodore Roosevelt My classroom is a friendly and welcoming environment where students can learn, explore, and their learning in not "boxed" in. I love to have my students participate in hands-on engaging activities.

My students come from elementary school with very little exposure to science.

If they do have science class it is very boring to them because they get science from a book. When they come to me they get science everyday for an hour. I try to re-ignite their love for learning by providing them with real world hands-on science. My students participate in 2-3 labs per week. My school is a STEM school where we promote science, technology, engineering, and math. Students come to us apprehensive as to what a STEM school is but when they leave us for high school they are well rounded and well educated students. Our students as sixth graders quickly fall in love with science and look forward to a hands-on engaging class everyday.

My Project

My students will use the straw rocket launcher and replacement straws when we are studying forces in science class and angles in math class. Due to recent standard shifts in our state curriculum forces is now covered in 6th grade. I do not have very many hands-on materials to engage my students. These launcher will be used and enjoyed my many students. Also, this lesson will be co-taught with the 6th grade math teacher incorporating data collection and graphing.

These donations for my classroom will impact the lives of many students.

The rocket launcher will be used year after year impacting hundreds of children. The educational value the launcher and replacement straws will have a wonderful impact but this material will also help build my students soft skills. Tell me an I forget.
