Our school is small for a city school and goes unnoticed! Our beautiful building is 105 years old and is tucked inside an older neighborhood behind a fire station. We do not receive any Federal money; however, our free lunch program is over 65%! Our school district is the largest in our state but so many schools around us have higher needs. This causes our school to go unnoticed.
Our school needs computer mice small enough for little hands!
Yes we have computers for every child and a full-time technology teacher (me!) in our building because we feel it is essential they learn online safety, appropriate device skills, and digital citizenship as soon as possible. Most of our students have already been exposed to technology before entering Kindergarten. However none of them understand the concept of left click and right click. I call this generation "Touch Screen Babies"! I have found that using a mouse helps their fine-motor skills, hand to eye coordination, and the importance of left-click vs. right-click.
I am hoping to get a class set of cord-retractable, child-sized computer mice. This will help students be successful in their early stages of technology education.
My Project
30+ retractable, mini-sized computer mice that is! After teaching technology to K-5 grades for the past 5 years, I have discovered that K-2nd grade students can NOT rely on touchscreen skills only, NOT easily attain the left and right click concept, and NOT easily maneuver a full-sized mouse. However, I have found that using the mini-retractable cord (because they loose the usb dongle for wireless) mouse works perfectly in little hands. I even wrote an L on the left-side. This also helped the left-hand students become accustomed to which side will represent "ENTER or GO". I would like to expand from a small group of mini-mice to a class-set of mini-mice (with a few spare in case I need them).
