Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are curious and enthusiastic learners. They are natural scientists who love conducting hands-on experiments. They attend a Title One school, and live in one of the roughest neighborhoods in our city. Despite these challenges, my students are eager to learn when provided with the opportunity and resources. Our school offers a safe space for them to grow and flourish. We have an exceptionally strong social support system, with counselors working with small groups of students on an ongoing basis from grades six to twelve. This is to ensure they graduate from high school and enroll in college.
My goal is to create an exciting, positive, learning environment for my students to explore the world around them.
Most of my students come from homes where academic enrichment opportunities outside of school are limited. They truly appreciate any of the extras we can bring into the classroom.
My Project
I would like to provide my students with a Filexec 3 Ring Binder. This binder will allow them to take freestyle notes as well as keep their lesson specific fill-in note sheets and hand outs in one place, organized according to date. Last year, I tried giving them folders to organize their handouts, but papers were often pushed into the folders with no regard for date or sequence. This became problematic when it was time to review their notes in preparation for exams. Some students would say they had nothing to study because they couldn't find the relevant information in their notebooks or jumbled folders.
I hope these binders will allow my students to stay organized and help them develop better study skills, thus increasing their levels of financial literacy and academic success.
