Have you ever read a book that just makes you want read more in that series? Well, I am hoping that the Disgusting Critters series becomes that for some of our students! These books are very silly and are written with a lot of facts and commentary from the critters. For example, there is fact about worms being invertebrates. One of the worms comments that now they don't have to buy shoes! I think that our students will think these books are hilarious but they will also be learning facts.
We will also use these books to show our students how different nonfiction books can be written.
There is an element of humor that can be infused in the way that they are written. These books will be used in all the 2nd-grade classrooms for modeling and teaching reading and writing skills. Hopefully, our students can use these books as mentor texts for their own writing projects.
