This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I am currently a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher. I am currently teaching 2nd grade, and will be teaching third grade next year.
My goal is to use book clubs to foster a love of both reading and diversity within my classroom.
When it comes to reading, engagement is VERY important. Book clubs are a way to engage our readers, and let them hold the reigns to their own learning.
Through book clubs, students work together to enjoy a text, make sense of a text, and from the entire experience, learn. I also believe they will be beneficial in encouraging hesitant and anxious readers to approach books with a group of friends that may have initially scared them (chapter books).
My goal with this project is to accumulate a set of texts that represent a variety of identities and experiences. it is very important to me that students are able to read books that are both mirrors and windows for themselves.
