Our school is a Title I school, nestled in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. The students in my class are some of the most amazing students I have ever had the opportunity to teach! They ended the school year at 100% on grade level in reading and math, which is an amazing feat considering over 50% of the students came to a school not knowing a single letter, and some could not even recognize or write their own name! They are like sponges and absorb every piece of information, facts, Secret Stories or algorithms I taught them! These kids are truly one in a million.
My Project
Flexible seating in classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking! Allowing my students to have a choice of what they sit on each day will allow them to feel comfortable and do their best thinking day in and day out! Some of the research I have done shows that even student attitude toward school changes when they enjoy the environment that flexible seating provides in their classroom. Another plus is that communication in the classroom flourishes when allowing students to be comfortable in the classroom.
