My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds but share a passion for learning. True to the definition of the word collaboration, my students work together to achieve a common goal making real-world connections.
Stepping into the new, Next Generation Science Standards, our students need to be prepared for college and careers.
Collaboratively learning through inquiry-based, hands-on activities provides that platform. Middle school students are curious and want to learn by solving problems as they develop methodologies to do just that.
My Project
Tired of your traditional science class? Need something fun that will make you excited to go to class each day? Well turning the classroom into a game is the answer. With the purchase of these project materials, my students will be able to engage in a classroom that is more interactive and will give them the opportunity to progress in the game/classroom.
Gamifying the classroom takes a lot of time and planning but is well worth it when students of all abilities take ownership in their progress.
This takes up extra time in the classroom but the materials requested will save ample time so the focus can be on the learning. Students are rewarded daily using stickers to advance to the next level within the classroom. Checking work or tasks in class has traditionally been done by writing scores on a class list and then entered into a computer. To maximize my time, an iPad will prevent the extra step and allow me to enter scores real time to communicate quickly with families. Also with compatible software, I will be able to interact with the SMART Board in the front of the classroom, from anywhere within the class.
Enhancing and decorating to correlate with my theme is essential to transforming the classroom into an adventure. The requested motivational quotes and decals will add to the theme and encourage students. Maximizing the available work space is challenging so purchasing a stand alone laptop desk will free up space in the classroom. Lab demos and equipment that I have wanted to increase engagement and excitement, like the digital thermometer and elephant toothpaste, will be sure to make a lasting impression. The laminator, pouches and pencil sharpener are essential classroom supplies that my students need to complete assignments.
