My students need a dry-erase kidney table for a more interactive small-group instruction experience.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
At the beginning of the year, my students were reluctant to get excited about math. Now, at the middle of the year, most of them are engaged and wanting to learn more! My goal is that, by the end of the year, they will be confident enough to call themselves "Mathematicians."
My students are 3rd and 4th graders in an urban school.
They all require extra support in math. Their stories vary from some who have misunderstandings in math to those who have not found math engaging enough. They enjoy working with technology, manipulatives, and each other when solving math problems. All of my students are capable of making major gains within their own mathematical abilities.
My students learn best in very small groups. With the addition of a dry-erase table, the students will be given a chance to become even more engaged during small group instruction. Imagine your 4th grade teacher presenting a geometry lesson to a small group of you and your classmates. The teacher might ask you to design a playground, a mosaic, or even a football playbook . . . on the table! Or what if your teacher was introducing fractions, and asked you to draw a fraction model of a pizza or a cake . . . on the table! I can already see the excitement on our students' faces when they get to use their creativity in math on this great tool of learning! All of these things and more will become a reality with the addition of a dry-erase table in our classroom.
Your donation will help me to continue to increase students' excitement in mathematics.
The engagement in our math class will continue to grow, and perhaps this tool is something that eventually other teachers will want to invest in. As teachers, we are charged to develop "21st Century Learners." This tool is just one resource that will help our students be ready to call themselves "Mathematicians"!
