In today's world, it is more important than ever to keep students engaged and excited about learning. Technology in my class has added depth, focus, and fun in both English and U.S. history. Some of my students have no access to technology at home, and having iPads will level the playing field.
My students are 8th graders in California.
Think back to when you were in middle school (junior high)... wouldn't iPads make learning so much more engaging? Today, kids are used to getting information in a second, and having state of the art technology in my classroom will help keep me relevant to their teenage lives. iPads provide a hands-on learning environment, and there is no better way to learn than with hands-on activities and lessons. I have done my research and piloted several recommended apps and programs using iPads with my own iPad. Adding additional iPads to my class facilitate my teaching, the children's learning, and the overall quality of their education.
My Project
I am requesting 2 iPad minis for my classroom. These two iPads will allow groups of students at a time to collaborate, share, and learn while using state of the art technology. The state of California is one of many states to have adopted Common Core Standards. These standards include the use of technology and collaboration among peers. I have used my personal iPad to enhance my curriculum by having students research, create, and present curriculum to the class. Examples include Keynote presentations, Prezi presentations, iMovie newscasts, iMovie video trailers and movies, and Jeopardy games. The possibilities are endless for what I can add to my classroom by incorporating iPads, and I am excited to continue to learn more about iPad use in the classroom and add it to my existing curriculum.
Middle school is such a volatile and pivotal time in today's students' lives, and teaching these wonderful young men and women is challenging.
By not only using technology in my classroom, but literally putting it in their hands, I have a greater chance of engaging them in the curriculum I am presenting. My state is in dire straits as far as funding for schools go, so I am hopeful that your generosity will help me realize my goals for incorporating this valuable tool in my classroom. Thank you!
