My Students

What middle school student doesn't love the latest and greatest in technology? 21st Century Learning Skills are the key to student achievement! It is essential for teachers and students to have access to the latest technological tools from the library.

Our middle school is one of the largest in our county.

Our large number of classes makes it difficult for our library to keep pace with the demands for technology. Students are growing more and more tech savvy, while teachers are embracing 21st Century Learning Skills. This creates a perfect storm: we need more video cameras for teachers and students to check out for class projects.

My Project

Sony Bloggie cameras are fantastic handheld devices. Filming is intuitive, and with a pop-out USB, students can quickly download their HD videos to the computer for editing. We already have a few video cameras that teachers check out for classroom use, but the demand far exceeds the supply. With these new video cameras, more students can acquire collaboration and presentation skills while they create movies to demonstrate their knowledge in any subject. Specifically, students can create citizenship Public Service Announcements in social studies, book trailers in language arts, metamorphosis projects in science, etc. We film students who participate in our forensics competition and poetry slam. Students are also interested in creating video morning announcements. All of these projects require students to write and edit scripts, perfect oral presentation skills, and work in teams with other students. The possibilities are endless!

Providing video cameras for our students is an excellent way to actively engage each and every student while they create a product that demonstrates their knowledge.

No more paper pencil tests, but portfolios full of educational movies showcasing students' progress and achievement!
