By the end of the school year, I would like my students to feel very comfortable and independent when using technology. In order to achieve this goal, my students need to be able to have access to computers easily. I would like to be incorporating a technology component into many lessons weekly.
My students are simply amazing.
I have a fantastic group of curious second graders. They love researching about many different topics! They truly get excited about learning when I put it in their hands and they get to choose what we learn about. They are amazing at collaborating together, and group work is really exciting for them. They each contribute greatly to collaborative projects.
Our school is also amazing! We are part of a smaller school district with awesome parent involvement and support. Our administrators encourage us to think outside the box and love for us to try new things in our classrooms. We are "explorers". We are always seeking new information and learning new things.
My Project
The sky is the limit for using these Chromebooks in our classroom. I use Google Classroom in my class. I can assign the students assignments to be completed individually or collaboratively through Google Classroom. With more access to technology, we can make these projects happen more often.
I would love to be able to assign my students a research project for them to complete using Google Slides. There are so many tools available within that program that I can use to teach them how to complete a research project, include pictures (their favorite part), and cite the sources that they have used. I can also use the Chromebooks for daily classroom activities such as AR testing, math facts practice, typing practice, and small group work.
The goal of the Common Core standards is to prepare the students to thrive in the 21st century.
Jobs do not look the same right now, or 10 years from now, as they did 20 years ago. Our students need to be comfortable with technology. We currently have one Chromebook available in our classroom at all times. If we can increase this number by 4 more Chromebooks, this will greatly increase the ability for me to assign technology-based lessons and use technology in more of my lessons each week.
