Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 4th, 5th, and 6th grade ESL students attend a high needs school in Massachusetts. All of my students are newcomers to the United States, and some have interrupted learning.
My highly motivated scholars have inquisitive minds and a thirst for learning.
As newcomers, my students need extra supports such as bilingual texts, picture cues, and small group support to meet their more diverse needs as learners. Our classroom is designed to create an intense amount of targeted differentiation to help our students acclimate to a new country and language while filling in major learning gaps in all content areas.
My Project
We will use the Chromebooks to access a multitude of resources that are available through the internet and provide and intensive level of differentiation in our classroom. From Kahn academy to Google suites students will be able to access differentiated math, reading, and writing using these precious Chromebooks.
In our classroom (which is a special program) we have a wide range of learners, but ALL are two or more years behind in grade level.
This means our students need very targeted instruction and intervention. Programs such as Kahn academy can allow us to provide modified curriculum to each of our students while tracking data more effectively and providing badly needed intervention in smaller groups. By adding Chromebooks to our classroom the time that students spend on and off technology is richer and more impactful on student growth.
