My kindergarten students amaze me on a daily basis. EXCITEMENT and ENGAGEMENT while learning is my number one goal as a kindergarten teacher. Keeping students excited about learning, and engaged in learning are my priorities to insure the success of my students!
My students are students of an electronic and 'plugged in' generation, yet many of them come from backgrounds & situations in which their access to electronic devices is limited.
Our school is located in an area of high diversity. The majority of my students come from lower income families, single parent families, students living outside of their parents home, and many other undesirable situations. As you can imagine my students have already overcome many life obstacles, and such a young age.
We are located in Boise Idaho. 58% of our school qualifies for free/reduced lunch. We also service students of many different languages and academic abilities.
My Project
I currently have a class bank of iPads that have been obtained through a combination of grants I have personally written, school funds, and PTA raised money. I have been using iPads in my classroom for the past 4 years, and am amazed as the impact they have had on my students. The use of the iPads has allowed me to connect with many students. This year I have nearly 60 kindergarten students between my morning & afternoon session, and I am hoping to be able to continue the use of the iPads during instruction
My hope is to obtain additional iPads, in order to meet my current goal of 2:1, 2 students who will share 1 iPad. I plan to continue to use the iPads to enrich and enhance my students learning. I have used many apps that are highly engaging that meet common core standards in areas such as LA, Math, Science, S.S., and many more.
