Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are CLEVER, CREATIVE and CURIOUS!
They love to learn and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I strive to give my students as many experiences as possible to help them to bridge any gap they may face. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire all our learners to continue on a path of academic success
My Project
Coding is the job of the future. I want my students to have the opportunity to learn with the latest technology. Through the use of Lego Wedo 2.0 and a chromebook my students will have that chance.
Lego Wedo is an amazing kit which allows students to use their STEAM skills.
They will have to create, build and program a robot to do all sorts of things. The kit includes a sensor which students can build into a robotic arm, it has a motor made of a simple machine and it's incredibly fun to work with! How motivating for the students!
The Chromebook is a necessary part of the kit because that is where the programming takes place. Our low income school district has only 30 chromebooks for 725 students. It is hard to have access to them. So the Chromebook would be great to complete this workstation for the students.
Any help you can provide for my students would be greatly appreciated.
