This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from one of the poorest and most violent cities in the country.

Every day they strive to broaden their horizons and reach for the stars.

For many, the classroom is the only safe haven they know. I work to instill in them that there is a bigger world out there than the one they see every day and that they matter, and always have a safe place to explore the world around them in our school and our classroom.

My Project

We need a change from our environment that will show them a different world does exist. A world that makes them feel special and comfortable enough to open up and engage with their peers. We would love a pleasing environment that feels warm and inviting.

Many students in my classroom struggle with understanding that a different life exists outside of their community.

This project will help pay for the prom decorations for the senior class prom. Students will be able to experience a once in a lifetime night to remember. The theme for prom is "masquerade under the sea". They are seniors who live in an urban neighborhood in South Jersey. They do not have access to experience formal events. This prom will give the seniors the opportunity to remove themselves from their neighborhood if only for one night. My students will know what it will feel like to get dressed up, dance and spend the night amongst their peer for one last night to remember.
