My students need a variety of materials for this school year. Highlighters, sentence strips (to work on thesis statements), white poster paper, dry erase markers, poster markers, and, most important, high-interest literature circle books!

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. My students are caring, diverse, eager to learn, and very unique. My school's community is very tight-knit and there is genuine pride from alum and current students alike. This will be our last year in the original building before a two-year remodel takes place and we relocate.

I feel lucky every single day that I go to school to teach my students.

I love their energy, their willingness to try new things, and I love seeing the light bulb moments that they discover with a little guidance.

My Project

This summer I spent four weeks learning how to better hone my craft to be a better teacher of writing. These books and these supplies will directly impact my students as they enter and make their way through their first year of high school. Students will participate in reading groups and will discuss and discover evidence to support common themes and motifs within what we read. They will work on creating their own thesis statements and we will work as a whole-class to explicate and offer suggestions for developing thesis statements. Students will read high-interest books that will show them that reading is amazing when you find the right book.

Every single one of my students will benefit directly from this project.
