The moment my students walk through my classroom door, they are ready to get to work. I say, "Are you ready to rock?" and they respond with, "Ready to roll!" I expect nothing but the best from them, and I strive to be the best teacher and provide the best classroom environment I can.
My school serves Latino, Polynesian, and African-American students who live in deep poverty.
These are amazing students, full of life and character, who deserve nothing but the best. Most live in unfortunate situations at home; therefore, the classroom must be anything but unfortunate. I strive to make sure my students have all that they need to be successful in their academics.
Home base. Everyone needs their own home base. My students need new tables they can call their own, where they can store their materials and, most importantly, have a designated spot to work. My students have the choice to work anywhere in the room: on floor, at the small group table, outside, but in the end, they know that they have their own spot to retreat to and work or to put their head down; a place they can claim as their own, if they so choose.
Each table is able to host two students, giving them their own designated spot, where they can gather their thoughts, make a game plan for the day and then launch into achieving their goals, whether it be at their table, their spot, or some place else.
The kids that I serve deserve nothing but the best. Funding this project will provide us with two more for a total of 8 tables that are needed to give each student their own home base. Thank you in advance.
