Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are an eclectic mix of children. All are from the surrounding Washington DC, Colombia Heights neighborhood. The families are diverse and come from a range of socio-economic backgrounds. We are a Title I bilingual school.

Our children need to be exposed to different modes of media and art.

Many have never seen a live play in their lives besides movies. This trip would help us break free of the monotony of attending museums.

Many of our students are practicing the art of public speaking and the power of expression through your body and watching professional actors do it live would be inspiring to them.

My Project

Our students love media and technology. Many are inseparable from their parents' iPhones or tablets. They mistakenly believe this to be the 'best' means of media.

They need to be exposed to other forms of media which to them may seem outdated but continue to be a powerful means of communication.

Parents have expressed interest in theater and the arts but do not have the resources to send their children.

We seek to go watch a play. A live re-enactment of a beloved children's book Library Mouse. The real beauty of the performance is that it is in both Spanish and English.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
