Our school is a neighborhood school with a tight sense of community for an urban area. My classroom family of first grade students is eager to learn.
I love to tie literature and creative projects into all the subjects I teach.
I have students with a wide range of abilities. It is sometimes a challenge to teach traditional subjects in a way that motivates the entire class. I am blessed to have parent volunteers that are willing to help out in the classroom.
Our new social studies curriculum lacks focus on world news and current events. I'd like my students to each have their own copy of the magazine so they can learn about what is happening in the world around them.
My students have a natural interest in our society and how others live.
By reading Schloastic Magazine their world will become larger than the boundaries of our Florida classroom. Social studies is an important component of our language arts program. Reading the magazine together and completeing the follow up activities in each issue will bolster reading skills and stimulate reading comprehension.
