My students need a carpet for our classroom where we will spend lots of time learning in first grade and as a new teacher, I can't wait to get them one!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This will be my second year teaching and my first time in first grade! I have been collecting things to make the classroom fun and inviting to promote learning but we still need a nice, big carpet! We have lots of students in our room who need a place to sit and learn with the teacher. Please help!
My students are wonderful!
They are first graders in a high-needs, inner city school. They have a lot of energy and are excited about learning! We are starting to feel like "big kids" now that we are out of kindergarten. The students do not have a lot of supplies, so most things are provided by the teacher, which is why we still do not have a nice carpet for our room!
My Project
I am requesting a large carpet for my first grade classroom. We will have a lot of students and will need one that can seat everyone. Right now I have a very small, black carpet that only seats about 12 students and next year I will have around 25 students. My students would love to come to the carpet for morning meetings, reading comprehension, and calendar time. We will also listen to read alouds, play games, and use the carpet as a space for some learning centers. We will be able to use the carpet as a place for every student to sit comfortably and it will also make the room so much brighter and inviting! The students are more excited about learning in a fun environment, and the carpet will really provide that for our room! Having a comfortable and organized carpet time will also set the stage for learning as they go on to second grade. If they are used to sitting appropriately on a carpet now, they will be ready to learn there next year!

I teach in a school that does not have funding to help the teacher buy materials, so this is my only way to get my students a nice carpet! It will help us from the beginning to the end of every day, all year! Next year will be my second year of teaching so I am still new to it and need a lot of things that I see other teachers successfully utilizing every day! Your help will be greatly appreciated!
