My Students

Our 1st grade students are eager to tackle chapter books discussion sessions! Our 2nd grade students are interested in learning how to conduct book clubs! The Language Arts Teacher and I, the Librarian, need multiple copies of a core novel for each class to model how to execute these literary strategies.

Even with today's electronic sophistication, our 1st and 2nd graders are STILL excited about reading a hard copy of a book.

We are looking forward to conducting this unit of study where they will learn how to read with their peers in literature circles.

My Project

Imagine 1st and 2nd graders requesting the experience to learn how to discuss what they read in book clubs! Well, students in these two classes have requested just that.

The Language Arts teacher and I have designed a unit of study to model how book clubs meet to discuss elements of the text for our 1st and 2nd graders, but we need these two fabulous chapter books!

"Freckle Juice" by Judy Blume and Starring Grace by Mary Hoffman will be read by the students as they learn how book clubs work. Students will read these chapter books as they learn how to review discussion questions before reading, meet with peers to discuss the authors and history of the text, etc. Oprah's Book Club would be proud of their request! What we need to model is a class set of each title.
