My Project

I am a teacher to 24 amazing 2nd graders from diverse backgrounds in Las Vegas. These students started their school experience virtually in Kindergarten and are now in 2nd grade. Setting the foundations for reading is not very easy through a screen. My students are lacking some basic background knowledge in phonics and sight words.

We need to bridge this gap with structured phonics lessons that are hands on and engaging.

These materials will enable me to teach in fun and meaningful ways. Students can us the magnetic disks to isolate sounds and blend them with their wands. Students can count sounds and syllables using pop-its. Mirrors will be used to see what the mouth looks like as they articulate sounds. In this age of technology, teachers like me need more to engage our students into our lessons and become lifelong readers.
