My Students

My biology classes have a very diverse group of students. They all vary in ethnicity, home language, and socioeconomic status. I have some English Language Learners whose speaking ability in the English language vary. A common thread is that they come to school eager and ready to learn. I also teach at a Title I school where over 50% of students receive free and reduced lunch.

I am here to provide them with the best education possible, to help them succeed academically, and help them become productive citizens.

My Project

When I teach homeostasis to my students, we do lab, where the students will use the digital blood pressure monitors to test their blood pressure while they are resting, sitting, standing and after exercise. They then will analyze the data they get and explain why the blood pressure readings change in different situations. This will help students understand the importance of blood pressure and the role it plays in maintaining homeostasis in the human body.

Then, we look at the kidney and how it helps maintain blood pressure and homeostasis in the body.

We take five samples of fake urine and use the Urinary Glucose Test Strips to find out which part of the kidney is not working. Then, we analyze why and how it affects blood pressure and homeostasis.
