My Students

The elementary and middle school students I teach here are a fun loving and entertaining group of individuals. A mixture of black, Hispanic, and white students who bring their own cultural influences along with them as they engage in musical learning process makes for an interesting experience. The varying nature of their diversity does not hold them back though whenever they approach their own interests and understanding of music.

Students meet for a total of one to two hours a week as they study music primarily to further understand their own interests and talents.

I hope to have students develop skills and talents as they endeavor in a modern style of music through contemporary music genres like rock and hip hop as well as learn to utilize music technology to create their own compositions..

My Project

The development of music education has been a challenge for students whom engage with music in the general setting. The best way to learn about music is to participate in the process of making it along with the music you hear. Students already have access to instruments but do not have access to materials that they can learn from. Including these method books into our classroom will allow students to study music both in the classroom as they play and at home as they watch videos to help improve their skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
