Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

My Students
I serve a diverse group of 7th grade boys and girls with many unique abilities. These abilities are often hidden underneath a layer of challenges. However, with the proper accommodations, tools, and environmental supports, these exceptional students will be able to maximize their full potential. My class consist of 28 vibrant and exceptional 7th grade students with diverse needs. I am a special education teacher who travels to support my students in the general education classrooms for 50% of the day. The other 50% of the day my students are with me receiving Specialized Academic Instruction.
My Project
Research suggest that out of class hours and class preparation are essential to getting a good grade. Accordingly, students should be prepared in a practical sense. This not only means getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast so that you are alert and can focus, but also means coming to school with essential supplies.
Due to socioeconomic challenges, on a daily basis many of my diverse learners show up to school ill prepared for learning.
This lack of preparedness works against them as they continue to work hard to overcome challenges that are present with their disabilities.
